On reaching adolescence, a lot of girls drop out of school. One of the reasons for this is early marriage. Even today, every 4th girl in India is a child bride, at an age when they should be in school and worrying about their homework or play time, they are at the receiving end of domestic violence and sexual abuse in their marital homes. Often, these young girls, children themselves, end up becoming mothers. All of this is still happening in our society because of a mindset which views girls as a burden, rendering them powerless to make any decisions about their own lives.
